Our take on the Kobalt XTR 24-volt Variable Speed Brushless 1/2-in Drive Cordless Impact Wrench

The Kobalt XTR is a cordless 1/2-inch mid-torque impact wrench in the Kobalt 24V line. It uses a brushless motor with three speed settings, up to 2,200 RPM and 2,800 impacts per minute, and a hog ring anvil for fast socket changes. The bare tool weighs 4.2 lbs and measures 6.8 inches long, so it fits under hoods and in tight wheel wells. At $120 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent new-price range across the four stores that list it.

Questions and answers

Is the Kobalt XTR impact wrench worth it?
For a home mechanic already on the Kobalt 24V platform, yes. It delivers mid-torque power in a compact body, and at $120 at eBay as of November 4, 2026 it is priced at the low end of its recent range.
How much torque does it really have?
The spec sheet lists 650 ft-lb of nut-busting torque, while the product description claims up to 1,200 ft-lb nut-busting and 750 ft-lb fastening. Treat the higher figure with caution and check the tool's label or manual before relying on it for stubborn bolts.
What comes in the box?
The listing includes at least one 24V 4.0Ah battery and a charger with roughly a one-hour charge time. Confirm the exact battery count with the seller, since bundle contents vary by listing.
Does it use the same batteries as other Kobalt 24V tools?
Yes. It runs on Kobalt 24V batteries, so it shares packs with other Kobalt 24V tools. Those batteries do not fit other brands' tools.
Is it strong enough for lug nuts?
Yes for most passenger cars and light trucks. Its mid-torque class and 1/2-inch hog ring drive handle typical lug nuts, but heavily rusted or oversized fasteners may need a breaker bar or a high-torque wrench.
When is it cheapest?
Cordless tool prices drop around holiday sales and when Kobalt runs battery bundle promotions. The current $120 at eBay as of November 4, 2026 is already near the bottom of its recent range.
Where is the Kobalt XTR 24-volt Variable Speed Brushless 1/2-in Drive Cordless Impact Wrench cheapest?
At eBay, for $120.00, 31% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Kobalt XTR 24-volt Variable Speed Brushless 1/2-in Drive Cordless Impact Wrench?
5 stores we checked sell it, including Amazon, eBay, Lowe's, Walmart, FinanceMyCart.
