Is the Marmot Tungsten 2P good for backpacking?

Yes. At 4 lbs trail weight it is light enough for two people to split, and it packs to about 24.4 x 5.9 inches. It is a three-season tent, not a winter shelter.

How does it handle rain?

The floor has a 2000mm water column rating and the fly is coated polyester, which owners say holds up in sustained rain. Seam sealing and a footprint add margin in heavy weather.

Is it roomy enough for two people?

Floor area is just over 30 sq ft with a 42.1-inch peak height, so two average sleepers fit with gear in the vestibules. Two wide pads will feel tight.

Does it come with a footprint?

No. The tent includes the canopy, fly, poles, stakes and carry bag; a fitted footprint is sold separately.

When is the best time to buy it?

At $279 at DICK'S Sporting Goods as of November 5, 2026, it is at the top of its recent range. Watch for spring and end-of-season sales, when it has sold for less.
