Does it come with a battery and charger?

No. The 2438-20 is the bare tool only, so you need an M12 battery and charger, or a kit version.

What size pads does it take?

It uses small backing pads, typically 1 to 3 inches, suited to spot correction rather than full-panel polishing.

Is it strong enough for paint correction?

It handles light swirl removal and spot work well. For heavy compounding across a whole panel, a corded or higher-voltage polisher is the better tool.

Is $199 a good price?

That is the best new price across 3 stores as of November 7, 2026. Bare-tool prices move with promos, so compare against kit bundles before buying.

Which M12 batteries fit?

Any Milwaukee M12 battery fits, but larger packs add weight and give longer runtime.

Our take on the Milwaukee M12 2438-20 Solo

The Milwaukee M12 2438-20 is a compact 12V cordless polisher, sold here as a bare tool with no battery or charger. It spins at up to 8,300 rpm and weighs 1.58 lb, so it fits one-handed work on small panels, headlights, trim and tight spots where a full-size rotary is awkward. The best new price is $199 at The Home Depot as of November 7, 2026, with 3 stores listing it new.
