Is the Nikon Coolpix W300 worth it?

If you need a camera that goes underwater and survives drops, yes. If you mostly shoot indoors or want better image quality, a phone or a larger-sensor compact is a better buy.

How deep can it go underwater?

Nikon rates it waterproof to 100 ft (30 m) for about 60 minutes per dive. Rinse it in fresh water and dry the seals after saltwater use.

No. The W300 records JPEG stills only, so plan on in-camera processing or editing JPEGs.

The camera, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a USB charging cable, a strap and documentation. A memory card is not included; it takes SD, SDHC and SDXC cards.

How does it compare with the Olympus Tough TG-6?

The TG-6 has a brighter lens and RAW support, which helps underwater and in low light. The W300 counters with 4K video and a lower typical price.

Our take on the Nikon Coolpix W300 Waterproof Digital Camera

The Coolpix W300 is Nikon's rugged compact: waterproof to 100 ft, shockproof from about 7 ft and freeze-proof to 14°F, with a 16 MP CMOS sensor and a 5x zoom covering 24-120mm. It shoots 4K video, has optical stabilization, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for phone transfer, and GPS-style location tagging for travel. It is a point-and-shoot built for water and dirt rather than for image quality. Pricing on this model varies widely by store and color, so compare the listed price against its recent range before buying.
