Is the original Switch still worth buying in 2026?

Yes if the price is the priority. It plays the same games as newer Switch models, but you give up the OLED screen and longer battery life.

How is the v1 different from the OLED model?

The v1 has a 6.2-inch LCD, 32GB of storage and shorter battery life. The OLED model has a 7-inch OLED screen, 64GB of storage and a better kickstand.

How much battery life does it get?

Nintendo rated the v1 at roughly 2.5 to 6.5 hours depending on the game. Demanding titles like Zelda sit near the low end.

Can I expand the storage?

Yes. There is a microSD slot, and microSDHC cards are supported. Digital games are large, so a card is worth adding.

What comes in the box?

The console, dock, power adapter, HDMI cable, two Joy-Con, Joy-Con straps and the Joy-Con grip, plus the original box.

This is discontinued hardware, so prices track remaining stock. The $159.95 at Walmart as of November 3, 2026 is already near the low end of its recent range.
