Is the Nord Electro 5 HP worth it over the 5D?

If you play mostly piano and want a weighted feel, the HP is the better fit. If you play organ and synth parts and carry your board often, the lighter semi-weighted 5D is easier on your back.

How heavy is the Electro 5 HP?

It is noticeably heavier than the semi-weighted Electro 5D because of the hammer-action keybed. Check the exact figure for your region, but plan on a two-hand carry or a cart for load-in.

Does it have speakers or a stand?

No. The Electro 5 HP is a stage keyboard with no built-in speakers, and it ships without a stand or pedals beyond the basics. Budget for an amp or PA and a stand.

Can I split the keyboard and play bass with my left hand?

Yes. Split mode assigns separate sounds to the lower and upper parts, so you can put bass or organ on the left and piano on the right.

When is the best time to buy one?

Since this is an older model, watch for used listings and clearance sales when a successor is announced. Prices on the used market tend to dip around those launches.

Our take on the Nord Electro 5 HP Stage Keyboard

The Nord Electro 5 HP is a 73-key stage keyboard with hammer-action weighted keys, aimed at pianists who want a portable board for gigs. It splits the keyboard into two parts and pairs a small LED display with hands-on controls for organ, piano and sample sounds. The HP version trades the lighter semi-weighted action of the standard Electro 5 for a heavier piano feel. It is an older generation now, so used and clearance prices are the ones to watch.
