Our take on the Nulas 8-Piece Kitchen Knife Set with Block

The Nulas 8-Piece Kitchen Knife Set with Block is a budget home knife kit: six stainless steel blades with extended tangs, plastic handles, and a storage block. It is aimed at renters, first apartments and casual cooks who want a complete set in one purchase rather than a few quality knives. The listed specs are inconsistent — a 15-inch blade length and 2-inch blade width are not realistic kitchen knife dimensions, so check actual blade sizes before buying. It rates 4.6 out of 5 from 59 ratings, a small sample.

Best forFirst apartments and dorm kitchensCasual cooks who want one complete setBuying a gift set on a tight budgetHouseholds that hand-wash and air-dry knives
Pros
  • Complete kit: six blades plus block in one purchase
  • Extended tang construction adds handle strength for the price
  • Stainless steel blades resist rust with basic care
  • Plastic handles keep weight and cost down
  • Block keeps knives organized on the counter
Cons
  • Stainless steel grade is unspecified, so edge retention is likely modest
  • Plastic handles feel less solid than wood or composite
  • Listed blade length (15 in) and width (2 in) look wrong for kitchen knives
  • No serrated bread knife or kitchen shears listed in the 8 pieces
  • Hand wash recommended; dishwasher heat can dull edges and degrade handles

Questions and answers

Is this set worth it for a first kitchen?
Yes, if you want one purchase that covers most cutting tasks and you accept budget-level edge retention. Cooks who cut daily should consider spending more on two or three good knives instead.
How does it compare with a knife block from a bigger brand?
Bigger brands usually specify the steel grade and offer better handles and warranty support. This set competes on price and completeness, not on blade quality.
Are the blade sizes accurate?
The listing shows a 15-inch blade length and 2-inch blade width, which do not match normal kitchen knives. Confirm actual sizes with the seller before ordering.
Can the knives go in the dishwasher?
Hand washing is safer. Dishwasher detergent and heat can dull stainless edges and wear plastic handles over time.
What is in the box?
Six knives and a storage block, eight pieces total. No shears or sharpening steel are listed.
When is the price lowest?
Budget knife sets usually dip during back-to-school and holiday sales. Check the price history chart before buying.
