Our take on the Petmaker Dog Kennel 42-inch Dog Crate with Front and Side Doors

The Petmaker 42-inch crate is a collapsible metal-wire kennel with a front door and a side door, sized for large dogs at 42 x 27 x 30 inches inside. It folds flat with a carry handle, has an electro-coated black finish, and uses an ABS plastic base tray. At $94.95 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026, it is the lowest of the three stores pricing it new, and a budget position for a crate this size. Its 2.8 out of 5 from 48 ratings is the main caution: buyers report problems with the build and the doors.

Best forOwners of large dogs up to roughly 90-100 lbsHomes where the crate sits in a corner and needs a side entryPeople who fold the crate away between usesBuyers on a tight budget for an XL crate
Pros

Cons
  • Low owner rating of 2.8 out of 5 from 48 ratings
  • Reports of weak latches and doors that a determined dog can work open
  • Thin wire gauge flexes more than heavier crates
  • No divider panel, so puppy sizing is limited
  • Tray and frame can rattle when the dog moves

Questions and answers

Is this crate big enough for a Labrador or German Shepherd?
At 42 x 27 x 30 inches inside, it suits most Labs and many Shepherds. Measure your dog's standing height and nose-to-tail length; dogs over about 30 inches tall at the shoulder need a taller crate.
Will a strong dog escape from it?
Some owners report exactly that. The latches are the weak point, so add clips or ties to the doors if your dog paws at them.
Does it come with a divider for a puppy?
No. It is a single-compartment crate with no divider panel, so a small puppy has the full 42 inches from day one.
Can it be used outdoors?
The electro-coated finish and leak-proof tray handle occasional outdoor use, but it is not insulated and is best kept under cover.
Is $94.95 a good price?
It is the lowest of the three stores pricing it new as of November 5, 2026, and low for a 42-inch double-door crate. Given the 2.8 rating, weigh the savings against the latch complaints.
How much does it weigh and does it fold?
It weighs 24 lbs and collapses flat with a carry handle, so one person can move it.
Where is the Petmaker Dog Kennel 42-inch Dog Crate with Front and Side Doors cheapest?
At Walmart, for $94.95, 17% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Petmaker Dog Kennel 42-inch Dog Crate with Front and Side Doors?
Rated 2.8 out of 5 from 48 ratings.
Where can I buy the Petmaker Dog Kennel 42-inch Dog Crate with Front and Side Doors?
3 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, Walmart, Target.
