The Pimax Portal is a 5.5-inch Android handheld built around a Snapdragon XR2 chip with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and it doubles as a VR/AR headset when docked into Pimax's VR frame. Its 4K LCD screen, magnetic split controllers and 6DoF tracking set it apart from ordinary retro handhelds. The best new price is $380 at eBay as of November 8, 2026, with two stores listing it new. That sits at the low end of where it has recently sold, so the price is reasonable for what it is.

Owners treat the Portal as an ambitious hybrid: they like the screen, the chip and the detachable controllers, but many find the software rough and the battery life short. Reception is mixed, with enthusiasm for the hardware tempered by setup headaches.
