Best forReplacing a wood-burning insert in an existing fireplace openingAdding heat to a basement, den or bedroom without a gas lineRenters or DIYers who want a recessed look without ventingBuyers who want remote and touch controls at a mid-range price
Pros
  • Two heat settings: 1500W for full output, 750W for smaller rooms
  • Flame effect can run without heat for year-round ambiance
  • Recessed or freestanding install gives placement flexibility
  • Remote and touch screen controls
  • No venting, gas line or chimney work needed
Cons
  • 1500W draws about 12.5 amps, so it needs a dedicated 15-amp circuit
  • 39-inch width limits it to openings of roughly that size
  • Electric heat is fan-forced and dries the air more than radiant heat
  • Flame realism is below that of higher-end linear fireplaces

Questions and answers

Is the R.W.FLAME 39-inch insert worth it?
It is a reasonable pick if you want a recessed electric fireplace with remote control at around $330. It heats a room, not a whole house, so judge it on looks and convenience as much as output.
Can I use the flames without the heat?
Yes. The flame effect runs independently of the heater, so you can use it in summer. The heater is switched on separately at 1500W or 750W.
What size opening does it need?
It is a 39-inch unit, so measure your fireplace opening and compare it to the insert's actual body dimensions before buying. Recessing also needs a nearby outlet.
Does it need a dedicated circuit?
At 1500W it pulls about 12.5 amps at 120V, which is close to a standard 15-amp circuit's limit. A dedicated circuit is safest, especially if anything else shares the outlet.
What comes in the box?
The insert and a remote control are included. Mounting hardware and the power cord are part of the unit; check the listing for anything else.
When is it cheapest?
Electric fireplaces usually dip during fall clearance and Black Friday sales. The current best is $329.99 at WoodArtSupply as of November 5, 2026; compare the three stores before buying.
Where is the R.W.FLAME 39" Electric Fireplace Insert cheapest?
