Is the Romax AC Eco Basic worth it over a battery press tool?

If you press fittings all day and have mains power nearby, the corded Eco Basic avoids battery cost and charging downtime. For rooftop, outdoor or remote work, a cordless tool is more practical despite the higher upfront cost.

What pipe sizes and materials can it press?

It covers 12 to 110 mm diameter with the standard press jaw system. That range suits copper, steel and multilayer composite pipe, provided you use the correct jaws and fittings for each material.

Are press jaws included?

The Basic package is the bare tool, so press jaws are bought separately. Budget for the jaw sizes you need across the 12–110 mm range, which adds meaningfully to the total cost.

How heavy is it to use?

The tool alone weighs about 4.5 kg, and jaws add more. That is fine at waist height but tiring for long runs of overhead pressing.

Does it need a special power supply?

It runs on standard 230 V mains with a type C plug and a 5 m cable. Check that site power is available where you are pressing, since there is no battery option.

When is the price likely to be lowest?

Only one new price, $4,269.69 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, is listed, so there is no history to time a purchase against. Compare against jaw bundles and dealer pricing before buying.

Our take on the Rothenberger Romax AC Eco Basic

The Romax AC Eco Basic is Rothenberger's corded electric press tool for making press fittings on copper, steel and multilayer pipe from 12 to 110 mm. It delivers 32 to 34 kN of piston force with a 5-second press cycle, runs on 230 V mains power and uses the standard press jaw system. At $4,269.69 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against. It is a pro-grade tool aimed at plumbers and installers who press fittings all day rather than at occasional DIY use.
