Is the MA-4 a good bass for a beginner?

It can work, but the $999.95 price is high for a first bass. The short 25.5-inch scale and slim neck make it easy to reach, so it suits smaller hands and players stepping up from a starter instrument.

How does the MA-4 differ from a standard 34-inch scale bass?

The 25.5-inch scale shortens the reach and lowers string tension, so bends feel easier but the low E can sound less tight. Expect a slightly rounder, less piano-like low end than a long-scale bass.

What pickups does the MA-4 have?

It has two humbuckers (HH configuration), which give a thicker, warmer tone than single coils. That suits rock and classic Van Halen material well.

Is $999.95 a good price for the MA-4?

That is the best new price found, at eBay as of November 4, 2026, with two stores listing it new. With so few sellers, stock and pricing can shift, so compare both listings before buying.

What is included with the bass?

Signature Schecter basses typically ship with a gig bag or case depending on the listing, so confirm the included accessories with the seller. The bass itself has the koa top, swamp ash body and stainless steel frets listed in the specs.

Our take on the Schecter Michael Anthony MA-4 Bass

The Schecter Michael Anthony MA-4 is a signature four-string bass built to the Van Halen bassist's spec: neck-through construction, a koa top over swamp ash, and a maple/walnut multi-ply neck. It carries two humbuckers and stainless steel frets on a rosewood board. The 25.5-inch scale is short for a bass, which makes the strings lighter and the reach easier. At $999.95 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with only two stores listing it new.
