If you want app control and codes without buying a hub, yes. The built-in Wi-Fi and Grade 1 deadbolt are the main things you pay for. A basic keypad lock costs less but has no remote access.
Does it need a hub or bridge?
No. The Encode deadbolt connects directly to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. You only need the Schlage Home app and an Alexa or Google account for voice control.
What batteries does it use and how long do they last?
It runs on four AA batteries. Schlage rates them around six months, and heavy Wi-Fi use shortens that. The lock warns you in the app before the batteries die.
Will it fit my door?
It fits doors 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick with a 2-1/8 inch cross bore and either a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset. The lever is reversible for left or right handing.
What is in the box?
