Is the Encode Plus worth it over the standard Encode?

Yes if you use Apple devices. The Plus adds Apple Home Keys tap-to-unlock, which the plain Encode lacks. If you only need codes and WiFi, the standard Encode costs less.

Does it need a hub or bridge?

No. WiFi is built in, so it joins your network directly. A hub is only useful if you want it in a broader smart-home setup.

How long do the batteries last?

Schlage rates it around six months on four AA batteries. Heavy WiFi polling and frequent Home Key use shorten that.
