Our take on the SENIX 22" 201cc Gas Self-Propelled Lawn Mower

The SENIX 22-inch gas self-propelled mower runs a 201cc SENIX RV200-2 engine with a single-speed drive up to 2.9 MPH. It cuts three ways (mulch, side discharge, rear bag) and has a 19-gallon bag, 1.25 to 4 inch height range, and 8-inch front / 11-inch rear wheels. The 22-inch deck is wider than the common 21-inch class, which means fewer passes on a medium lawn. It is a value-priced brand, so check the price against 21-inch mowers from better-known names before buying.

Best forHomeowners with a quarter acre to about an acre of flat or gently sloped grassBuyers who want a wider 22-inch cut without paying premium-brand pricesPeople who mulch most of the time but want a bag for leaves and heavy growth

Pros

22-inch deck cuts a wider swath than most 21-inch mowers
Three cutting modes: mulch, side discharge, rear bag
Self-propelled drive up to 2.9 MPH eases work on slopes
11-inch rear wheels roll over uneven ground better than small wheels
19-gallon bag holds more clippings between empties

Cons

Single-speed drive, not variable speed, so pace is fixed
201cc engine is modest for thick, wet grass on a 22-inch deck
2-year warranty is shorter than the 3-year coverage many rivals offer
SENIX has a smaller dealer and service network than major brands
No electric start listed; expect a pull cord

Questions and answers

Is the SENIX 22-inch self-propelled mower worth it?: It makes sense if you want a wide 22-inch cut and three mowing modes at a lower price than premium brands. Weigh that against the 2-year warranty and the smaller service network before deciding.
How fast is the self-propelled drive?: The drive tops out at 2.9 MPH and is single-speed, so you walk at one pace. There is no variable-speed lever to slow down in tight corners.
What cutting heights does it offer?: It adjusts from 1.25 inches to 4 inches, which covers a low trim cut up to a tall cut for summer heat. Set it higher in dry spells to protect the lawn.
Does it mulch and bag?: Yes. It is a 3-in-1 mower: mulch, side discharge, or rear bag. The rear bag holds 19 gallons.
How big a lawn will a 22-inch mower handle?: A 22-inch deck suits roughly a quarter acre to an acre. On larger lots you will want a riding mower or more frequent sessions.
What engine does it use?: It uses a 201cc SENIX RV200-2 engine. That is on the small side for a 22-inch deck, so take lighter passes in tall or wet grass.
