Our take on the Serta Motion Essentials VI Adjustable Base

The Serta Motion Essentials VI is a power adjustable bed base that raises the head and foot sections with a wired remote. It supports up to 650 lbs and needs no box spring, so a mattress sits directly on the deck. The queen size measures about 59.5 by 79.5 inches and stands 16 inches tall. It ships flat and requires assembly.

Questions and answers

Is the Motion Essentials VI worth it over a fixed bed frame?
If you read, watch TV or work in bed, the adjustable positions are the main draw and the 650 lb capacity adds durability. If you only sleep flat, a standard frame costs far less.
Does it need a box spring?
No. The base has a solid deck, so a mattress rests directly on it and no box spring or slats are used.
What mattress types work with it?
Most foam, hybrid and latex mattresses bend fine on an adjustable base. Traditional innerspring mattresses with stiff edges flex poorly and are a weaker match.
How much assembly is required?
The base ships in pieces and needs the legs, frame sections and motor connections put together. Plan on two people and about an hour.
Does it have a wireless remote or app control?
No. It uses a wired remote for head and foot positions, with no app or voice control.
How tall is it, and will it fit my frame?
The base is 16 inches tall on its own legs. Check your headboard and bedding before buying, since it sits higher than many standard frames.
What do buyers say about the Serta Motion Essentials VI Adjustable Base?
