Is the SK280 good for a complete beginner?

Yes. It is a manual standard-gauge machine with straightforward controls, and punch cards make patterning simple. Most beginners still need practice casting on and tensioning before full garments.

What yarns can it knit?

Silver Reed rates it for 3-ply to light double knit yarns. Very bulky yarns and fine lace weights fall outside its standard-gauge range.

How much table space does it need?

The machine is about 125 cm long and 26 cm deep, so plan for a table at least that wide plus room for yarn and the carriage to travel.

Does it need electricity?

No. It is a manual machine: you move the carriage by hand, so there is no motor or power supply.

What comes in the box?

The listing includes the carriage. Check the specific listing for punch cards, tools and accessories, since bundles vary by seller.

The best new price was $1,463.00 at Etsy as of November 4, 2026. Used machines and bundles often sell for less, so compare listings before buying.
