Is the SK840 worth it over a punch-card machine?

If you design your own patterns, yes. Electronic patterning with DesignaKnit gives full-bed patterns a punch-card machine cannot do. If you only knit simple repeats, a punch-card model costs far less.

What else do I need to buy to use electronic patterning?

You need the DesignaKnit software and the SilverLink module, both sold separately. The machine alone knits manual patterns only.

Can I use it in the US?

It is rated 220-240 volts, so you need a step-up transformer for US outlets. Check the plug type before ordering.

Does it come with a ribber?

No. The SPR60N ribber attachment is a separate purchase, as is the LC580 lace carriage.

What yarn does it take?

Standard-gauge 4.5 mm machines are built for 3- and 4-ply and fine double knit yarns. Bulky yarns will not work.
