Is the GM II worth the extra over this lens?

The GM II is lighter, sharper in the corners wide open and has less focus breathing. This first-generation lens costs less and still delivers strong center sharpness and fast autofocus.

Will it work on APS-C Sony bodies?

Yes, it mounts on E-mount APS-C cameras, where it behaves like a 36-105mm equivalent. It is large and heavy on small bodies.

Does it have image stabilization?

No. Stabilization comes from the camera body, so pair it with an IBIS-equipped Sony body for handheld low-light work.

The lens comes with front and rear caps, a lens hood and a soft case. A tripod collar is not included.

Its best new price was $1,498 at Adorama as of November 7, 2026. Prices for this lens tend to dip during major sales events and when the GM II is promoted.

Is f/2.8 enough for indoor events?

Yes for most wedding and event work, especially with a modern Sony body's high-ISO performance. It is a stop faster than typical f/4 standard zooms.
