Questions and answers

Is the 60-degree angle right for V-grooves?
Yes. A 60-degree V is a common parting angle for grooves, outlines and lettering, and it leaves a clean symmetrical channel. Steeper angles cut narrower grooves; shallower ones open wider.
Does it come sharp and ready to use?
STRYI sharpens it for soft and hardwood, so it should cut out of the box. Expect to hone and strop it as you work, since carbon steel dulls with use.
How do I keep the carbon steel from rusting?
Dry the blade after every session and wipe it with a light oil. The oak handle is already treated with linseed oil, but the steel has no coating.
Which width should I buy?
The 5mm is a general-purpose middle size for medium grooves and lettering. Choose 3mm for fine detail and 10 or 15mm for bold, wide channels.
What is in the box?
Just the chisel. There is no gift box or case, so plan your own storage.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price seen is $43.56 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, across four stores listing it new. Compare the other listings before buying.
