Our take on the Tamiya 1/10 RC Hotshot II Blockhead Motors

The Tamiya Hotshot II Blockhead Motors is a 1/10 scale 4WD off-road buggy sold as an unassembled kit. It is a reissue of the classic Hotshot II with Blockhead Motors styling: side plates, number plates, light pods, window nets and a dummy antenna. The kit includes a HobbyWing THW 1060 brushed ESC, a 540-type brushed motor and a 2-channel radio layout, but no battery, charger or transmitter. Its best new price is $214.89 at Bay Shore Hobbies & Toys as of November 4, 2026, with three stores listing it new.

Questions and answers

Is the Hotshot II Blockhead Motors worth it?
Yes if you want a buildable, collectible Tamiya buggy with vintage looks. It is less appealing if you want fast, ready-to-run performance out of the box.
What do I need to complete it?
A 2-channel transmitter and receiver, a steering servo, a 7.2-7.4V battery or 2S LiPo, a compatible charger and paint for the body. The kit includes the motor and HobbyWing 1060 ESC.
Can it run on 3S LiPo?
The HobbyWing 1060 ESC supports 2-3S, but the brushed 540 motor and older drivetrain are happiest on 2S. Use 3S only with care and check motor temperatures.
How does it compare with the original Hotshot II?
It uses the same 4WD shaft-drive layout and adds Blockhead Motors body parts and decals. The included HobbyWing ESC is a modern convenience over vintage mechanical speed controls.
When is it cheapest?
Its best new price was $214.89 at Bay Shore Hobbies & Toys as of November 4, 2026. Tamiya reissues rarely discount deeply, so watch for store sales and bundle offers.
Where is the Tamiya 1/10 RC Hotshot II Blockhead Motors cheapest?
