Best forSmall yards and edge trimmingBuyers on a tight budgetLight upkeep around fences and flower bedsAnyone wanting a cordless trimmer without gas
Pros
  • Brushless motor should last longer and run cooler than brushed motors
  • 12-inch cut is manageable in tight spots
  • Automatic line feed saves stopping to bump the head
  • Straight shaft gives decent reach under shrubs
  • Cordless 21V battery means no gas, oil or cord
Cons
  • 21V 3Ah battery limits runtime; a spare is worth having
  • 12-inch width is slow on large lawns
  • No NRTL safety listing and not CARB-compliant
  • Spec sheet lists gas-engine fields (2-cycle, SOHC) that don't apply to a battery trimmer, a sign of sloppy documentation
  • 3 out of 5 rating suggests inconsistent quality

Questions and answers

Is the Tanbaby weed eater worth it?
For small yards and light trimming at a low price, it can be. The 3 out of 5 rating and reports of weak power mean it is a risky pick for thick grass or larger lawns.
How long does the battery last?
The 21V 3Ah pack gives modest runtime, typically enough for light trimming on a small lot. Expect noticeably shorter runs in tall or wet grass, so a second battery helps.
Does it use standard trimmer line?
It has an automatic line feed head and takes standard replacement trimmer line. Check the spool and line diameter in the manual before buying refills.
Is it good for edging and thick weeds?
It handles light edging and grass along fences. Thick weeds and brush will bog down a 21V 12-inch trimmer, so use a gas or higher-voltage tool for those.
What comes in the box?
Typically the trimmer, the 21V 3Ah battery, a charger and a guard. Confirm the exact contents with the seller, since bundles vary.
When is it cheapest?
Budget trimmers like this usually drop around spring lawn-care sales and end-of-season clearance. Check the price history on this page before buying.
What do buyers say about the Tanbaby 12-inch Cordless Weed Eater Brushless Grass Trimmer?
