Our take on the Toro Power Max HD Two-stage Gas Snow Blower

The Toro Power Max HD is a two-stage gas snow blower with a 30-inch clearing width, built for large driveways and heavy, wet snow. Two-stage design uses an auger to gather snow and an impeller to throw it far, so it handles drifts and plowed-in ends that single-stage machines stall on. It is a gas machine: no cord, no battery, but you maintain an engine and store fuel. No current price was provided for this listing, so check the live comparison before buying.

Pros
  • 30-inch width clears a wide path per pass
  • Two-stage auger and impeller throw snow far from the path

  • Toro's Power Max line is well established for parts and service
Cons
  • Gas means fuel, oil changes and seasonal engine maintenance
  • Heavy and bulky to store and maneuver compared with single-stage units

  • Louder and smokier than battery or corded machines
  • Price is not given here, so compare stores before committing

Questions and answers

Is a two-stage blower worth it over a single-stage?
Yes for long driveways and wet, heavy snow. The impeller throws snow much farther, and the machine handles drifts that stall single-stage units. For a short, flat driveway with light snow, a single-stage is cheaper and easier to store.
How wide a path does it clear?
30 inches per pass. That is on the wide side for a walk-behind, so fewer passes on a long driveway.
Does it have electric start?
The specs listed here do not mention electric start, so assume a manual pull start unless a store listing says otherwise. Check the specific model's details before buying.
What kind of snow does it handle best?
Heavy, wet snow and deep drifts, plus the plowed berm at the end of the driveway. Two-stage machines are built for exactly that.
When is it cheapest?
Snow blowers usually discount in late winter and early spring as stores clear stock, and again in early fall promotions. Compare the price history across stores before buying in season.
What maintenance does a gas blower need?
Oil changes, fresh fuel with stabilizer, spark plug checks and a pre-season start check. Budget time for that each fall.
What do buyers say about the Toro Power Max HD Two-stage Gas Snow Blower?
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 21 ratings.
Where can I buy the Toro Power Max HD Two-stage Gas Snow Blower?
6 stores we checked sell it, including Cutler's, Stones Ace of, Acme Tools, Luvians, Do-Cut's Power Equipment Warehouse.
