Is the True Catalyst 9 worth it at $86.99?

At $86.99 at Gear4Good as of November 7, 2026, it is far below typical elite carbon skate pricing. For an expert skater who fits a regular D&R width, that is strong value.

How does the Catalyst 9 compare with the Catalyst 7 or 5?

The 9 uses a full carbon fiber composite one-piece shell and Shift Max 9Cr steel, while lower Catalyst models step down to less stiff boots and lesser runners. The 9 is the stiffest and most performance-focused of the line.

Does the boot need to be baked?

It is thermoformable, and baking is the normal way to get the personalized fit. Have it done at a shop and confirm your size first, since a baked boot is hard to exchange.

What width is the Catalyst 9?

This listing is the D&R regular width, True's standard fit. Players with wide or narrow feet should try another width or model.

What steel does it come with?

It ships with True Shift Max 9Cr stainless steel runners, a high-grade steel that holds an edge well.

When is the price lowest?

Clearance on prior-season skates tends to come after new models launch, usually in late summer and fall. Track the price history to see whether $86.99 is near the low.
