Is the VIZIO D40F-E1 worth it?

It is a reasonable buy for a bedroom or spare room where 1080p is enough. If you want 4K, HDR or a faster smart system, spend more on a higher series.

Does this TV have 4K or HDR?

No. It is 1080p Full HD with no HDR support, which is typical for 40-inch budget sets.

What apps does SmartCast include?

Netflix, YouTube and XUMO are listed, and more apps are available through SmartCast. The selection is smaller than on Roku or Google TV.

Does it need a streaming stick?

No. Wi-Fi and SmartCast are built in, so you can stream without extra hardware.

What size room suits a 40-inch TV?

A 40-inch set works well at roughly 5 to 8 feet viewing distance, which suits bedrooms and small living rooms.

Entry-level VIZIO sets usually drop around Black Friday and back-to-school sales. Check the price history before buying.
