Is the Andes armchair worth $1,199?

It is a large, well-built lounge chair with performance velvet, and $1,199 is the only new price listed as of November 4, 2026. Whether it is worth it depends on whether you have the 39-inch depth to spare; a smaller accent chair costs less but seats less comfortably.

How does it compare with a recliner?

It does not recline, swivel, rock or glide. It is a fixed lounge chair, so pick it for looks and a deep seat, not for adjustable positioning.

Will it fit in a small room?

At 33 inches wide, 39 inches deep and 31 inches high, it needs roughly a 3-foot-by-3.5-foot footprint plus clearance. Measure the walkway behind it before ordering.

Is the performance velvet good with pets and kids?

Performance velvet is treated to resist spills and is easier to wipe than standard velvet. The natural/sand color is light, though, so expect visible marks and vacuum it regularly.

What is the seat height and depth?

The seat is 18 inches high, 24 inches wide and 29.5 inches deep. That is a low, deep seat that suits taller users and lounging more than upright sitting.

Only one store lists it new at $1,199 as of November 4, 2026, so there is no competing price to wait for. West Elm's own seasonal furniture sales are the usual route to a lower price.

Our take on the West Elm Andes Upholstered Armchair

The Andes is West Elm's oversized upholstered armchair, built on a solid eucalyptus and engineered hardwood frame with cast metal legs. It measures 33 inches wide, 39 inches deep and 31 inches high, with a 24-inch-wide, 29.5-inch-deep seat at 18 inches off the floor. The cover is a hand-finished Performance Distressed Velvet in a natural/sand crossweave, and it weighs 60 lbs. The best new price is $1,199 at west elm as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no discount competition to compare against.
