The Wltoys 124017 V2 is a 1:12 scale four-wheel-drive RC buggy that comes ready to run, with a brushless motor and battery included. Best forFirst-time hobby RC buyers wanting brushless speedBackyard and park off-road bashingGift for a responsible older child or teenBudget entry into 1:12 scale RC
Pros
  • Brushless motor gives strong acceleration and top speed for the size
  • 4WD keeps it planted on loose dirt and grass
  • Ready to run: battery, charger and transmitter in the box
  • 1:12 size is easier to store and carry than 1:10 trucks
  • Replacement parts are cheap and widely available
Cons
  • Small sample of ratings, so reliability is hard to judge
  • Plastic drivetrain and shocks can break in hard crashes
  • Included charger is slow; spare batteries are worth buying
  • Not waterproof, so avoid wet grass and puddles
  • 6+ age rating overstates it; it is fast for young kids

Questions and answers

Is the Wltoys 124017 V2 worth it?
For the money it is a strong brushless 4WD starter buggy. Expect to spend a little more on spare batteries and a few replacement parts.
How fast is it?
On its included battery it runs roughly 30-40 mph depending on surface and gearing. That is fast enough to need open space and care.
What is in the box?
The buggy, a transmitter, a battery and a charger. You may need AA batteries for the transmitter.
Is it waterproof?
No. It is not rated for water, so keep it off wet grass and out of puddles.
Is it good for a 6-year-old?
The 6+ label is optimistic. The speed and weight suit older kids and adults; younger children should run it on low throttle with supervision.
When is it cheapest?
Prices tend to dip during holiday sales and clearance events. Check the price history before buying.
