Our take on the 14 Mil Clear Tarp 7x10ft Heavy Duty Waterproof Vinyl Tarp with Grommets

This is a 7x10 ft clear PVC tarp at 14 mil thickness, built for waterproof protection where you still need to see through the cover. It has grommets along the edges for tying down, and the clear vinyl works for greenhouse walls, patio covers, equipment covers and temporary windbreaks. The 14 mil gauge is heavier than common 6-10 mil clear tarps, so it resists tearing better but weighs more and costs more. No current store price was provided, so compare against the $25-$60 range typical for clear vinyl tarps this size before buying.

Best forCovering plants or greenhouse frames where light must pass through
Protecting patio furniture, firewood or equipment while keeping it visible
Temporary wind and rain barriers on decks and job sites
Shoppers who need a heavier gauge than 6-10 mil clear tarps
Pros
  • Clear vinyl lets light through, unlike opaque polyethylene tarps
  • 14 mil is a heavy gauge that resists punctures and tears better than thin clear films
  • Grommets along the edges give multiple tie-down points
  • Waterproof PVC suits outdoor use in rain and snow
  • 7x10 ft is a handy size for small structures and furniture covers
Cons
  • Clear PVC is heavier and stiffer than woven poly tarps, so it folds less easily
  • Vinyl can stiffen in cold weather and may crack if handled roughly when frozen
  • Clear film shows dirt, scratches and creases more than dark tarps
  • Not breathable, so condensation can build up under it
  • No price was listed, so you cannot confirm the deal without checking stores

Questions and answers

Is 14 mil thick enough for outdoor use?
Yes. At 14 mil, this is a heavy clear vinyl tarp, well above the 6-10 mil clear films sold for light duty. It handles rain, wind and general outdoor covering, though sharp edges and abrasion will still wear it over time.
Will it let enough light through for plants?
Clear PVC passes most visible light, so it works for greenhouse walls and plant covers. Some vinyl blocks part of the UV light plants use, so it is better for short-term protection than a permanent greenhouse glazing.
How do I secure it?
Use the grommets along the edges with rope, bungee cords or zip ties. Space ties evenly and leave slight slack so wind gusts do not rip the grommets out.
Can I use it as a patio or porch enclosure?
Yes, a 7x10 ft clear panel is a common size for closing in a porch or deck against wind and rain while keeping the view. Fasten it taut to a frame; loose vinyl will flap and wear at the grommets.
How does it compare to a regular blue poly tarp?
Poly tarps are cheaper, lighter and opaque. This clear vinyl tarp costs more but lets light through and gives a cleaner look for windows, greenhouses and patio covers.
When is the best time to buy?
Clear tarps are in highest demand in fall and early winter, when people cover plants and porches. Prices tend to be softer in spring and summer, so check the price history before buying.
