Is this set good for a beginner?

Yes. Twelve profiles in one box let a beginner try different cuts without buying tools one by one. Expect to sharpen and strop before first use.

SK2 is carbon steel, so it rusts if left damp. Wipe dry after use and apply a light oil to the blades.

What is included in the 12-piece set?

Twelve gouges with 4.5-inch handles, each a different profile. There is no mallet, strop or case listed.

Can I use these on hardwood?

They will cut soft woods like basswood and pine more easily. On hardwoods, take light cuts and expect to resharpen often.

Is $13.90 a good price?

It is the best new price found, $13.90 at eBay as of November 7, 2026, with 2 stores selling it new. That is low for 12 gouges.

Do the handles fit a mallet?

The handles are wood, alloy steel and plastic and are made for hand pressure. They are not rated for mallet striking.

Our take on the Adevena 12 set SK2 Carbon Steel Sculpting Knife Kit

A 12-piece wood carving gouge set with SK2 carbon steel blades and 4.5-inch handles in wood, alloy steel and plastic. It covers 12 different gouge profiles, so it suits beginners and hobbyists who want one box of shapes rather than buying tools one at a time. At $13.90 at eBay as of November 7, 2026, it is a low-cost entry point; carbon steel needs drying and oiling to stay rust-free.
