Our take on the Bassett Furniture Ellery Roll Arm Sofa in Gray

The Bassett Furniture Ellery is an 83.5-inch roll-arm sofa in gray designer fabric, with nailhead trim, removable boxed seat cushions and knife-edge back pillows. A sleeper version with a queen innerspring mattress is available. Seat depth is 24 inches and seat height 20 inches, so it sits deep and fairly tall. Bassett is a US maker known for made-to-order upholstery, so expect a build lead time rather than same-week delivery.

Questions and answers

Is the Ellery sofa worth the price?
It is a made-to-order US-built sofa with a hardwood frame and removable cushions, which is a step above mass-market sofas. Whether it is worth it depends on the price you find and how long you can wait for delivery.
How does it compare with a Pottery Barn or Article sofa?
The Ellery is more traditional, with roll arms and nailhead trim, and its cushions come off for cleaning. Article sofas ship faster and cost less but offer fewer fabric choices.
Is the sleeper comfortable for guests?
The sleeper uses a standard queen innerspring mattress, which is fine for occasional guests but not for nightly sleeping. Add a mattress topper for longer stays.
Will the gray fabric hold up with pets and kids?
Bassett offers several designer fabrics, so ask which grade and cleaning code the gray is. Removable boxed cushions help, but a mid-gray shows light dirt and pet hair.
What are the dimensions and will it fit through my door?
It is 83.5 inches long, 38 inches deep and 36 inches high, with a 69-inch seat width. Measure doorways and hall turns; a sofa this long often needs a straight entry or a removable-leg delivery.
When is the best time to buy?
Bassett runs seasonal promotions and fabric sales, often around major holidays. Compare the current price against its recent range before ordering, since made-to-order pieces rarely discount deeply.
