Our take on the Brooklyn Bedding Ultimate Dreams Firm Talalay Latex Mattress Topper

The Brooklyn Bedding Ultimate Dreams is a 3-inch Talalay latex mattress topper with an organic cotton cover, sold in California King and in soft, medium and firm versions. Talalay latex is breathable and naturally resistant to dust mites and mold, so it suits sleepers who want pressure relief without memory foam's heat or sink. It is a straightforward way to firm up or soften an existing mattress instead of replacing it. No current price was provided for this listing, so check the live price against its recent range before buying.

Best forBack and stomach sleepers who want a firmer surfaceHot sleepers and foam-sensitive sleepersAllergy sufferers wanting a hypoallergenic layerOwners of a too-soft mattress not ready to replace it
Pros
  • Talalay latex is springy and breathable, not heat-trapping
  • 3-inch profile adds real cushioning without a huge height jump
  • Organic cotton cover is a nicer touch than polyester knits
  • Three firmness choices cover soft through firm preferences
  • Latex resists dust mites and mold, good for allergies
Cons
  • Latex is heavy and awkward to rotate on a California King
  • No straps or grip base mentioned, so it can shift on smooth mattresses
  • Firm latex feels firm; soft sleepers may find even the soft version too resilient
  • No current price given, so value is hard to judge
  • Latex toppers generally cost more than foam toppers

Questions and answers

Is a latex topper worth it over buying a new mattress?
If your mattress is structurally sound but too firm or too soft, a 3-inch latex topper is far cheaper than a new mattress. If the mattress sags or is old, a topper won't fix the support underneath.
Which firmness should I pick?
Choose firm for back and stomach sleepers or a too-soft mattress, medium for most side and combo sleepers, and soft for light side sleepers who want pressure relief. Latex feels firmer than foam at the same rating.
Does it sleep hot?
Talalay latex is open-cell and breathable, and the organic cotton cover helps airflow, so it generally sleeps cooler than memory foam. A waterproof mattress protector will cut some of that breathability.
Will it stay in place on my mattress?
Latex has some grip, but a heavy California King topper can shift on smooth surfaces. A fitted sheet over both layers helps hold it, and a grip pad underneath stops sliding.
Is it good for allergies?
Latex is naturally resistant to dust mites and mold, and the cover is organic cotton, which helps allergy sufferers. Wash bedding regularly and use a protector to keep the cover clean.
What's in the box?
You get the latex topper with its organic cotton cover. It ships compressed or rolled, so give it a day to expand fully before judging the firmness.
