Is 40 lb enough for a beginner?

Yes for light pressing, curling and shoulder work. Most lifters outgrow it within a few months on compound lifts like rows and presses.

Can I add more plates later?

Only if you find plates that fit the same 1-inch threaded handles. Standard 1-inch plates from other CAP sets generally work.

How long does it take to change weights?

Each side needs its collar spun off and back on, so a full change takes roughly a minute. Quick-select dumbbells are faster but cost more.

Will the plates damage my floor?

Cast iron can dent wood or tile if dropped. Use a rubber mat and set the dumbbells down rather than dropping them.

The best new price was $126.58 at Amazon as of November 6, 2026. Cast iron sets often dip during late-November sales.
