Is the 552i worth $429.99?

At $429.99 it is at the high end of its recent range, so waiting for a dip makes sense if you are not in a hurry. The set still replaces 15 pairs, which is cheaper and smaller than buying them separately.

How is the 552i different from the older SelectTech 552?

The 552i is the current version of the same 5 to 52.5 lb design, with the dial mechanism and app support. The core weight range and footprint are unchanged, so upgrades are rarely worth it.

Can I drop these dumbbells?

No. The plates lock into a cradle, and dropping them can crack the mechanism or bend the selector. Set them down under control, especially after a heavy set.

What comes in the box?

You get the pair of dumbbells and the two storage cradles they sit in. The BowFlex SelectTech app is a free download for iOS and Android.

Do I need the app to use them?

No. The dial works on its own. The app adds guided workouts and tracking if you want structure.

When is the best time to buy?

Adjustable dumbbells tend to dip during Black Friday and January sales. With only one new price listed at $429.99 as of November 4, 2026, watch for a drop before buying.

Our take on the BowFlex SelectTech 552i Dumbbells

The SelectTech 552i is BowFlex's dial-adjustable dumbbell pair. One turn of the dial moves each dumbbell from 5 lbs to 52.5 lbs in 2.5 lb steps up to 25 lbs and 5 lb steps above that, replacing 15 pairs of fixed weights. The pair sells new for $429.99 at playitagainsports.com as of November 4, 2026, the only new price listed. That is near the top of what this set has cost recently, so it is not a bargain moment.
