Is a countertop dishwasher worth it?

For one or two people without a built-in machine, yes. It saves hand-washing time and uses hot water more consistently than a sink. For a family cooking daily, the small capacity will frustrate you.

Does it need plumbing or a permanent water line?

No. It connects to the kitchen faucet with a hose and drains into the sink, and it runs on standard 110V power. You do lose the faucet while a cycle runs.

How many dishes fit inside?

Expect roughly a few place settings: plates, glasses, mugs and cutlery. Large pots, sheet pans and tall stockpots will not fit, so plan to wash those by hand.

It is rated at 55 dB, close to a normal conversation. That is fine in an open kitchen, but you will hear it in a small apartment during a cycle.

What cycles does it have?

Quick Wash, Intensive, Normal and a Fruits/Vegetables rinse, selected with push buttons. The produce cycle is for rinsing fruit and vegetables, not for greasy cookware.

When is the best time to buy it?

Countertop dishwashers tend to dip during spring moving season and Black Friday sales. Check the price history before buying so you know whether a listed discount is real.

Our take on the Casa Home Living 1200W Countertop Portable Dishwasher

The Casa Home Living is a 1200W countertop dishwasher that sits on the counter and hooks up to the kitchen faucet, so it needs no plumbing work. It holds a small load and runs at 55 dB, about the level of a quiet conversation. Five push-button cycles cover quick washes, intensive cleaning, normal loads and rinsing produce. It suits small kitchens and one- or two-person households, not families with a full sink of dishes every night.
