Is a portable dishwasher worth it for a rental?

Yes, if you can't install a built-in. It needs no cabinet work and rolls away when not in use. The trade-off is floor space and a hose hooked to the sink during each wash.

How does it connect to the sink?

A hose coupler attaches to most standard kitchen faucets, and the drain hose returns water to the sink. You roll it over, connect, and start the cycle. The faucet is unavailable while it runs.

How many place settings does it hold?

Eight place settings. That fits a couple's daily dishes or a small family's dinner plates, but a full dinner party will need two loads.

Yes. 45 dB is about the level of a quiet conversation, so it won't drown out a TV in an open kitchen. Most portable dishwashers run louder.

Does it need a special outlet?

No. It runs on 115 volts, so a standard US grounded outlet works. Avoid sharing that circuit with other high-draw appliances.

When is the best time to buy it?

Portable dishwashers see the deepest discounts during major appliance sales around holidays and in late summer. Check the price history before buying.
