Our take on the Clear Tarp Waterproof 7x13 ft Plastic Heavy Duty Cover

This is a single clear PVC tarp, 7 by 13 feet, about 0.01 inch thick, sold as a heavy-duty waterproof cover. The clear material lets light through, which suits greenhouses, chicken coops, woodpiles and temporary windbreaks where you want cover without blocking the sun. At 0.01 inch it is a light-to-medium sheet, not a rugged truck tarp, so it is best for light outdoor covering rather than sharp or abrasive loads. No current price or recent price range is available for this listing.

Pros
  • Clear PVC lets light through, unlike opaque tarps
  • Waterproof sheet for outdoor use
  • 7x13 ft size covers a small coop, frame or stack
  • Light 0.01 in sheet is easy to cut, fold and hang
  • Single-piece count keeps the job simple
Cons
  • 0.01 in is thin; not for sharp edges, gravel or heavy wind loads
  • Clear PVC can yellow and stiffen with long UV exposure
  • No grommets, rope or fasteners are stated in the specs
  • Smooth plastic can flap and tear at tie points without reinforcement
  • Not a substitute for a woven heavy-duty truck tarp

Questions and answers

Is this tarp strong enough for a chicken coop roof?
As a rain cover over a solid roof or frame, yes. Stretch it tight and pad sharp corners, because 0.01 in PVC tears at a loose or abrasive edge. It is not meant to be walked on or to hold standing water.
Will it block sunlight?
No. Clear PVC passes visible light, which is the main reason to pick it over a blue or green tarp for a coop, greenhouse or cold frame. Expect some haze and gradual clouding over time.
Does it come with grommets or rope?
The specs list only the tarp itself, so plan on your own fasteners. Sandwich the edges with battens or clips, or fold a hem around a rope, to spread the load.
How does 0.01 inch compare with other tarps?
It is on the thin side. Common heavy-duty PVC tarps run 0.02 in and up, and woven polyethylene tarps are measured differently. Use this one for light covering, not for sharp loads or highway use.
What size area does 7x13 ft cover?
About 91 square feet. That fits a small coop, a woodpile or a section of fence, but check your frame dimensions first, since you lose a little width when you fold edges for tie-downs.
When is the best time to buy it?
Clear tarps often drop in price in spring, when greenhouse and garden covering demand peaks, and in fall clearance sales. No price history is available for this listing, so compare stores before buying.
