Our take on the Ebern Designs Coba Upholstered Platform Bed with Storage Drawers and Charging Station

The Ebern Designs Coba is an upholstered platform bed with four storage drawers, a rectangular headboard and a built-in charging station. It uses 13 included slats, so no box spring is needed, and the manufacturer rates it for more than 1,000 lbs of static load. The full frame measures about 61.6'' wide, 86.7'' long and 41.4'' high, and it ships flat with assembly required. It is a budget-tier storage bed, so expect a manufactured-wood frame wrapped in fabric rather than solid hardwood.

Best forShoppers who want underbed storage without a separate dresserRenters and small bedrooms where floor space is tightPeople who charge phones and tablets at the bedsideBuyers who want a platform bed and no box spring
Pros
  • Four drawers add real storage in two places: under the bed and in the headboard
  • Built-in charging station keeps cables off the nightstand
  • 13 slats included, so no box spring purchase
  • High static load rating of more than 1,000 lbs
  • Upholstered, finished-back frame looks good away from a wall
Cons
  • Manufactured wood, not solid wood, so it is heavier and less repairable
  • Assembly required, and a full bed frame takes time to build
  • Drawer clearance depends on floor height and bedding overhang
  • Fabric upholstery needs spot cleaning and shows wear over time

Questions and answers

Do I need a box spring with the Coba bed?
No. It comes with 13 slats and is designed as a platform bed, so a mattress sits directly on the slats.
What mattress size fits this frame?
The listed dimensions (about 61.6'' wide and 86.7'' long) point to a queen. Confirm the size on the listing before ordering, since the frame is sold in more than one size.
How much weight does it hold?
The manufacturer rates the frame for more than 1,000 lbs of static load, which covers a mattress plus two adults comfortably.
Is the charging station built in?
Yes. The headboard includes a charging station, so you can plug in phones and tablets at the bedside without a separate power strip.
How hard is assembly?
Assembly is required and the frame has many parts, so plan on a couple of hours and a second person. Check that all hardware is present before starting.
When is it cheapest?
Storage beds like this one usually drop during major sale events and at the end of a season. Track the price history and buy when it falls below its recent average.
