Is the GE XWFE worth it over a cheaper generic?

If you want the fridge's RFID indicator to work reliably and want certified lead and PFAS reduction, the genuine XWFE is the safe choice. Generics are cheaper but some fridges reject them and certifications vary.

Will it fit my refrigerator?

It fits fridges that specify the XWFE cartridge, including many GE, GE Profile, Cafe and Monogram French door and side-by-side models. Check your model's manual or the old cartridge label before buying.

How often should I replace it?

Every 6 months or 170 gallons, whichever comes first. Replace sooner if water flow drops noticeably or the fridge indicator tells you to.

Does it remove lead and PFAS?

Yes. It is certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for lead and NSF/ANSI 401 for PFOA/PFOS and some pharmaceuticals, plus NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine taste and odor.

Is $17.89 a good price?

That eBay price as of November 5, 2026 is low for a genuine XWFE, which often sells for more at big-box stores. Confirm the seller is reputable and the cartridge is genuine.

Do I need to shut off the water to change it?

No. The cartridge twists out and the new one twists in without tools or shutting off the water supply.

Where is the GE XWFE cheapest?
