Our take on the Greenworks 24V 5 Series Cordless Battery Random Orbit Sander (Tool Only)

The Greenworks 24V 5 Series is a cordless random orbit sander with a 5-inch pad, a brushless motor and three speed settings from 5,000 to 11,000 orbits per minute. It runs on the Greenworks 24V battery system, so it shares packs with the brand's other 24V tools. A removable dust bag catches debris, and the tool-only package means no battery or charger is included. The best new price is $54.99 at Greenworks as of November 3, 2026, and it has held at that level since November 1, 2026.

Pros
  • Brushless motor for longer runtime and less maintenance

  • Shares batteries with other Greenworks 24V tools
Cons
  • Tool only: no battery or charger in the box
  • 48 W and 2 A is modest power for heavy stock removal
  • Dust bag is less effective than a shop vac hookup
  • Random orbit action can leave swirls if you press too hard

Questions and answers

Is the Greenworks 24V sander worth it?
It is a good fit if you already own Greenworks 24V batteries, since the tool alone is $54.99 at Greenworks as of November 3, 2026. If you are starting from scratch, budget for a battery and charger on top of that.
Does it come with a battery and charger?
No. This is the tool-only version, so you need a Greenworks 24V battery and charger, sold separately. It does include the 5-inch pad and a dust bag.
What sandpaper does it take?
It uses standard 5-inch hook-and-loop sanding discs. The listed grit range is 80, 120 and 240, so you can go from stock removal to finish sanding with the same pad.
How does it compare to a corded random orbit sander?
The cordless design is more convenient, but at 48 W and 2 A it has less sustained power than most corded 5-inch sanders. It suits light and medium work better than heavy material removal.
Can I connect it to a shop vacuum?
The dust port is set up for the included removable bag. Check the port size before buying an adapter if you want to hook up a vacuum, since the bag alone misses fine dust.
When is the best time to buy it?
The price has been flat at $54.99 at Greenworks since November 1, 2026, so there is no recent dip to wait for. Watch for bundle deals that include a battery if you need one.
Where is the Greenworks 24V 5 Series Cordless Battery Random Orbit Sander (Tool Only) cheapest?
At Greenworks, for $54.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Greenworks 24V 5 Series Cordless Battery Random Orbit Sander (Tool Only)?
Rated 4.3 out of 5 from 47 ratings.
