Our take on the Henckels Modernist 14-pc Self-Sharpening Knife Block Set

A 14-piece forged German stainless steel knife set in a self-sharpening wooden block. The block sharpens the blades each time you pull a knife out or slide it back in, so edges stay usable without honing. The set covers chef's, santoku, bread, utility, paring and steak knives plus kitchen shears. At $219.95 at Wayfair as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with five stores pricing it new.

Questions and answers

Is this set worth it at $219.95?
At $219.95 at Wayfair as of November 5, 2026, it is near the bottom of its recent price range, so it is a reasonable time to buy. You get 14 forged pieces plus a self-sharpening block, which is a lot of set for the money.
How does the self-sharpening block work?
Angled sharpeners inside each slot run along the blade edge as you insert or remove a knife. That keeps edges touched up but removes a little steel each time, so use the slots sparingly and hand wash when you can.
Are these knives dishwasher safe?
Henckels lists them as dishwasher safe. Hand washing and drying keeps edges sharper longer and protects the handles and block.
What is included in the 14 pieces?
The set includes a chef's knife, santoku, bread knife, utility knife, paring knives, steak knives, kitchen shears and the self-sharpening block. Exact counts per knife type are listed on the box.
How does it compare with the Henckels Modernist set without self-sharpening?
The knives are the same forged German steel line. The self-sharpening block adds convenience but removes more metal over time than a plain block plus occasional honing.
When is it cheapest?
Knife block sets usually drop during holiday sales and wedding-registry season. Track the price history here and buy when it dips below the current $219.95.
Where is the Henckels Modernist 14-pc Self-Sharpening Knife Block Set cheapest?
At Wayfair, for $219.95, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Henckels Modernist 14-pc Self-Sharpening Knife Block Set?
Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 3,700 ratings.
