Our take on the Hongge 6-Person Family Cabin Tent Featuring Top Rainfly Cover

The Hongge 6-Person Family Cabin Tent is a black cabin-style tent with a full top rainfly cover, sold for car camping and family weekend trips. Cabin walls give near-vertical sides, so six sleepers get more usable floor and headroom than a dome of the same footprint. It has no listed price, so check current store prices before deciding.

Pros
  • Cabin shape gives more headroom and usable floor than a dome
  • Six-person capacity suits a family with kids
  • Top rainfly cover adds a layer over the roof
  • Simple, familiar pitch for casual campers
Cons
  • Black shell absorbs heat in direct sun
  • Cabin tents are heavy and bulky for backpacking
  • No listed price, weight or packed size to judge value
  • Rainfly covers the top only, so wind-driven rain can reach the walls

Questions and answers

Is this tent good for a family of six?
It is rated for six people, which usually means six sleeping pads wall to wall with little room for gear. A family of four or five will be more comfortable.
How does it handle rain?
The top rainfly sheds rain off the roof, but it does not cover the walls. In heavy or wind-blown rain, expect some moisture on the sides and check the seams.
Can I stand up inside it?
Cabin tents are taller than domes, but this listing gives no center height. Check the peak height before buying if standing room matters to you.
Is it good for backpacking?
No. Six-person cabin tents are heavy and bulky, so this is a car-camping tent. Look at two- or three-person backpacking tents for hiking trips.
What comes in the box?
The listing names the tent and the top rainfly cover only. Confirm that poles, stakes and a carry bag are included before you order.
When is the price lowest?
Family tents usually drop in late summer and around end-of-season sales. Compare the current price against the product's price history before buying.
