Our take on the House of Hampton King Size Platform Bed with Upholstered Headboard & Footboard

This is a king-size platform bed with a velvet-upholstered headboard and footboard, tufted upholstery, nailhead trim and a metal frame with slats. The slats mean you can skip a box spring and set the mattress straight on the frame. It is a frame-only buy, so the mattress and bedding are extra. No current price was available to compare against its recent range.

Best forBuyers who want an upholstered statement bed without a box springKing-size sleepers who like velvet and tufted detailingShoppers furnishing a primary bedroom on a mid-range budgetPeople who prefer a footboard to keep the mattress in place
Pros
  • Slats included, so no box spring needed
  • Velvet upholstery with tufting and nailhead trim on both headboard and footboard
  • Metal frame gives solid support under the slats
  • King size suits couples who want extra room
  • Headboard and footboard are both padded, which softens the look
Cons
  • Frame only: mattress and bedding cost extra
  • Velvet shows dust, pet hair and marks more than woven fabric
  • Tufting and nailhead trim collect dust and are fiddly to clean
  • A footboard can be awkward for tall sleepers and makes bed-making harder
  • Assembly of a king metal frame with upholstered panels is a two-person job

Questions and answers

Do I need a box spring with this bed?
No. The frame includes slats, so a mattress sits directly on them. A box spring would only add height.
Is the mattress included?
No. It is frame only, so you buy the king mattress and bedding separately.
How tall is the headboard?
Headboard height is not listed here. Check the product dimensions before buying, since a low headboard can look small against a tall wall.
Does the velvet stain easily?
Velvet is more forgiving than flat fabric for spills but holds dust and pet hair. Vacuum it with a brush attachment and blot spills rather than rubbing.
Is it hard to assemble?
Expect a couple of hours with two people. The metal frame and upholstered panels are heavy, and tightening bolts fully is what keeps it from squeaking.
When is the best time to buy?
Upholstered beds usually see the deepest discounts around major holiday sales and at the end of a season. No current price was available to judge this listing against its recent range.
