Do I need a box spring with this bed?

No. The slats are included and the platform supports a mattress directly. A box spring would only raise the mattress height.

Is the 800 lb weight capacity realistic?

Yes for the frame and slats as rated. That covers two adults plus a heavy mattress with margin, which is above most upholstered platforms.

It is a multi-step build: frame, slats, then headboard. Two people make it much faster, and most owners finish in an hour or two.

Vacuum with a soft brush attachment and blot spills promptly. Avoid soaking the fabric; spot-clean with a mild upholstery cleaner.

Yes. It is sized for standard Queen and King mattresses, and the wings sit at the sides of the headboard rather than over the mattress.
