Is the HP OMEN 17 worth $1,699?

At $1,699 you get a 17.3-inch 144Hz screen, a Ryzen AI 9 365, an RTX 5060, 16GB DDR5 and a 1TB SSD. That is a fair price for a large-screen gaming laptop with a current-generation GPU, though 1080p on a 17-inch panel is a compromise.

Can the HP OMEN 17 run modern games?

Yes. The RTX 5060 and Ryzen AI 9 365 are built for current games at 1080p, and the 144Hz screen rewards high frame rates. Expect high settings in most titles, with lower settings in the heaviest ones.

Is 16GB of RAM enough?

16GB DDR5 is fine for gaming and everyday work. It can feel tight if you keep many browser tabs open while gaming or run heavy creative apps, so check whether the memory is upgradeable before buying.

Is the 17.3-inch screen too big to carry?

It is a desktop-replacement size. The laptop is large and heavy, so it suits a desk or a bag you rarely carry. For daily commuting, a 15- or 16-inch model is easier.

What comes in the box?

Expect the laptop, its power adapter and the usual paperwork. A mouse and headset are not included.

When is the best time to buy it?

Only Best Buy lists it new at $1,699 as of November 7, 2026, so there is no recent price history to time a drop against. Watch for holiday sales and back-to-school promotions.
