Is the SONGESAND bed frame worth it?

Yes if you want storage, a headboard and slats in one low-priced package. Skip it if you want solid wood or a finish that will not chip.

Does it need a box spring?

No. The LURÖY slatted base is included, so you place the mattress directly on the slats.

What mattress size fits?

The frame is 65 inches wide and 77 1/8 inches long, which fits a full or queen mattress depending on the version. The adjustable sides let you match the mattress length.

How hard is assembly?

It is a multi-hour job with many parts and is much easier with two people. Budget an afternoon and have a screwdriver and hammer ready.

Our take on the IKEA SONGESAND Bed Frame

The SONGESAND is IKEA's classic-looking storage bed: a white paper-foil frame with a tall headboard and four drawers tucked under the frame. It comes with the LURÖY slatted base, so no box spring is needed, and the bed sides adjust to fit different mattress lengths. At $249 at ModeSens as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its usual range, which has run roughly $250 to $350 depending on size and sales. It is a full/queen-class frame at 65 inches wide and 77 1/8 inches long, so measure your room before committing.
