Questions and answers

Is this set worth it at $171.20?

For a household that needs several bags at once, yes. That works out to about $34 per piece, well below buying five hard-shell bags separately. Expect budget-grade wheels and zippers at this price.

Is ABS strong enough for checked bags?

ABS is rigid and shrugs off scuffs and light rain, but it can crack under hard impacts where polycarbonate would flex. It is fine for occasional trips, less so for heavy checked-bag use.

Does the set include a carry-on size?

A five-piece set typically includes a 20-inch carry-on plus larger checked sizes and the duffel. Confirm the exact dimensions on the listing before you fly, since airline carry-on limits vary.

Are the bags expandable?

Yes, the main compartments expand for extra packing space. That helps on return trips but can push a bag over airline size limits when fully unzipped.

When is the best time to buy?

Luggage discounts cluster around Black Friday and pre-summer sales. At $171.20 as of November 4, 2026, the set is already near the bottom of the five-piece hard-shell range.

Where is the Merax 5-Piece Black Expandable ABS Luggage Set with Duffel Bag cheapest?

At Home Depot, for $171.20, as of our latest check.
