Is this set worth it over a cheaper stamped set?

Yes, if you cook often. Forged, full-tang German steel holds an edge longer and feels more solid than stamped blades, and this set covers the core knives without filler.

Can the knives go in the dishwasher?

Mercer recommends hand washing and drying. Dishwasher heat and detergent dull edges and can degrade the Delrin handles over time.

What knives are included?

An 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch bread knife, 6-inch boning knife, 5-inch utility knife and 3.5-inch paring knife, plus the block.

How does it compare with the Mercer Genesis set?

Genesis uses a different handle material and blade finish. Renaissance is the forged German-steel line, so expect similar geometry with a more traditional look.

When is the price lowest?

Knife block sets tend to dip during holiday sales and back-to-school promotions. The current best new price is $215.15 at eBay as of November 6, 2026.

Does it come with a sharpener or honing steel?

No. The set is five knives and the block only, so budget for a honing steel or whetstone separately.
