Our take on the Mercer41 Upholstered Daybed with Storage Drawers Twin Size with USB Ports

The Mercer41 Upholstered Daybed is a twin-size wood-framed piece with linen upholstery, button tufting, built-in USB ports and two storage drawers under the seat. It works as a sofa by day and a bed by night, which suits small rooms, guest rooms and kids' rooms. The slatted frame means you don't need a box spring. Its latest listed best price is $389.99 at Wayfair as of November 3.

Best for
Small bedrooms and studio apartments
Guest rooms and home offices that double as sleeping space
Teens and kids who want a sofa-style bed
Shoppers who want under-bed storage without a separate dresser
Pros
  • Two drawers add storage in rooms with little closet space
  • Built-in USB ports keep phones and tablets charged at the bedside
  • Slats included, so no box spring is needed
  • Tufted linen upholstery gives a softer look than a metal frame
  • Twin size fits tight floor plans
Cons
  • Twin only, so it will not suit couples or taller adults
  • Upholstered fabric needs spot cleaning and shows stains more than wood or metal
  • Drawers need clearance in front, which limits placement against walls
  • Assembly of a slatted wood frame takes time and usually two people

Questions and answers

Is this daybed worth it?
It makes sense if you need a twin bed that doubles as seating and adds storage in a small room. If you only need a bed, a plain frame costs less.
Do I need a box spring?
No. The frame includes slats, so a twin mattress sits directly on them. A standard twin mattress around 8 to 10 inches thick fits best.
What mattress size fits?
A standard twin mattress, 38 by 75 inches. Twin XL will not fit.
What do the USB ports need?
They need to be plugged into a wall outlet with the included cord. They charge phones and tablets at standard USB power, not fast-charge laptops.
How much clearance do the drawers need?
Leave roughly 2 feet of open floor in front of the bed so the drawers pull out fully. Avoid pushing the daybed flush against a wall on the drawer side.
When is it cheapest?
Upholstered furniture like this tends to drop during holiday sales and end-of-season clearances. Check the price history before buying.
