Is the Surface Laptop 13.5 still worth buying?

Only at a low price and for light use. The dual-core i5 and 8GB of RAM are fine for browsing, Office and video, but not for heavy editing or many browser tabs.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?

RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. The SSD is technically replaceable, but Microsoft does not design the machine for user upgrades.

No. The first-generation Surface Laptop has one USB-A port, a mini DisplayPort, a Surface Connect port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

How is the battery life?

When new it ran roughly 9 to 10 hours of light use. On a used unit, expect less, and check the battery report before buying.

What comes in the box?

Retail units include the laptop and a Surface Connect power supply. Used listings may include only the laptop, so confirm the charger is included.

Prices for this generation fall around back-to-school and holiday sales and on refurbished stock. Compare the current price with its recent range before buying.

Our take on the Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.5" i5-7200 8GB RAM 256GB SSD

The first-generation Surface Laptop is a 13.5-inch Windows notebook with a 2256 x 1504 touchscreen, a dual-core Intel Core i5-7200U, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Its draw is the 3:2 PixelSense display and the fabric-covered keyboard deck, which make it feel more premium than most laptops at this tier. It is a 2017 machine, so it suits light work rather than heavy multitasking. No current price was provided, so check the latest best price against its recent range before buying.
