Is the Xbox Series X Digital Edition worth it?

The hardware is strong, but at $748 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026 it costs far more than this console normally sells for. Wait for a lower price unless you need one now.

What is the difference from the standard Series X?

Only the disc drive and the white color. The digital edition has the same 1TB SSD, 4K output and performance, but all games must be downloaded.

Can I add more storage?

Yes. It takes Seagate and Western Digital expansion cards in the dedicated slot, and you can also run backward-compatible games from a USB drive.

Does it play disc games?

No. There is no disc drive, so physical Xbox discs will not work. Digital purchases and Game Pass titles do.

What comes in the box?

The console, one wireless controller, an HDMI cable and a power cord. Batteries for the controller are included.

It tends to drop during Black Friday and holiday sales. The current $748 at Amazon is above the console's typical selling price, so watch for a fall.

Our take on the Microsoft Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition

The Xbox Series X Digital Edition is Microsoft's disc-free version of its flagship console, finished in white and standing 10.2 inches tall. It keeps the full Series X hardware: 4K output, 1TB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, and the Xbox Network, but games are downloaded rather than bought on disc. At $748 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, it sits well above the console's usual street price, so this is not a good moment to buy.
